As always it was great. The food was great again. We are already looking forward to the next time.

Great hotel! Small but nice with charm. Sympathetic team and super friendly. Family atmosphere!

Regional products, very good cuisine, nice service, good price / performance ratio

After a very strenuous hike from the Westweg and finished, I was welcomed very friendly here. As a reason I was allowed to take a freshly tapped wheat beer to the room to arrive first. My room was on the third floor (with an elevator). The dinner as well as the breakfast were delicious. Had a short but nice stay here. Dad Hotel is very old. My room furnishings and the bathroom were older. But everything was functional and available. Free WiFi throughout the house. The nightly price not very cheap. Located a bit away from the Alexanderschanze. But there is little else to stay in the area.

We had a wonderful evening at Gasthof Kniebishöhe! The chicken wings were very, very tasty can only be recommended and the service was very friendly, we felt completely at ease thanks for the beautiful evening it was definitely not our last visit! :)

Great location. We were warmly received. Rooms are fine. The restaurant with its dishes is worthy of a star chef. Attractive ambience with a fireplace corner. The fresh, oven-warm bread for breakfast is a stunner. Thank you for the warm and professional hospitality. And for the extra loaf of bread to eat away ... ;-)

We (me and my 7 year old daughter) received a very warm welcome. I immediately felt this warmth in this house. We were shown to our room after a short briefing (Corona). A very nice double room with a balcony and a view of the beautiful garden awaited us. Everything you need. Even a couch with a table, which my daughter immediately claimed for herself. Playing painting, ideal. Everything was very clean and we slept very well the days. Very calm and relaxing. In the evening a 3 course menu was offered. My daughter's wishes were met. Every evening it was a culinary delight, also for the eye. Everything so fresh and prepared with love. And I've never seen my daughter eat so much before. The chef always asked if everything was okay. Especially my daughter. An extra portion of ice cream or a glass of milk after the kitchen closes. No problem. You really noticed that it is important to him that the little guests are also satisfied. The service is excellent. The selection of good wines is very good. I especially liked the recommendations of the service staff which wine could go with which meal. It worked for me every time. The breakfast was delicious and everything was there. Everything fresh and nothing from a wholesale market. Here, too, my daughter was able to express special requests that were fulfilled. Eg warm cocoa with cream. We were there 3 nights. Thus, with the Black Forest Plus Card (from 2 nights) we were able to go on a lot of excursions and receive free admissions. All of this in short ways. The landlady allowed my daughter to bathe in the garden pond. She showed my daughter which flowers you can eat. Then the two of them went off and ate their way through the garden. People who love children. Incredibly great. Especially for a single mother, after short-time work, homeschooling and limited social contacts, we have found a place here where we could really recharge our batteries. Thanks a lot for this. Very relaxing here, perfect owner, you will be spoiled with culinary delights

After a 30 km west route stage in the pouring rain, I arrived totally drenched and received a very warm welcome, which was good. The room was clean and spacious. The food was very good and tasty, as was the breakfast. The boss always checks that everything is okay and asks if everything is okay. The rest of the staff was also very friendly and attentive. The concept of sustainability is very commendable. A very good address in Kniebis.

Hole in the wall, only 1 light went on in the bathroom, when the next room is showering there is hardly any water for showering. Old bathroom. Room new and clean. Mattress very hard and bed creaky. Very noisy. Breakfast buffet, if you can call it that, very, very poor. There is only bread and no rolls. In the end, you weren't even asked how you liked it and at the end the visitor's tax was removed, which we weren't told about before (otherwise you always get a card). Not recommendable.

Better not a second time. Two stars for the quality of the food. Breakfast is small but very tasty. But after that I can't say anything good. In short, the hotel urgently needs renovation. What was done is unfortunately done cheaply and you can see that. The bathrooms are no longer up to date. Better to avoid with children. We didn't feel welcome. The boss is very resolute. We definitely missed the hospitality. The region is mega beautiful and we are there more often. But next time somewhere else.

We got a place shortly before the kitchen closes on Sunday and had the best schnitzel, the cordon bleu, Wiener schnitzel, pork schnitzel everything was super delicious. Personally, I think it's great when the boss drops in to exchange a few words. We will come back to everyone. It should also be mentioned that the meat is sourced from regional farms

First class restaurant 👍 Very good food, everything freshly prepared, side salad tastes like it was freshly picked in the garden. Nice people. 🙂 We'd love to go back. 🌞

Waited 1 hour for the food. "Happy Schnitzel Day" according to the advertisement for € 8.80 is a fake !! ... We paid € 16.80 with a drink and 1 salad, we paid € 24 per person. Everything just not happy Schnitzel😕 ... You get a 5 € voucher for a later visit.

Wonderful experience and an absolute must-stop along the Westweg. The hosts are warm and welcoming and take great care with their menu; the elegant way they present and serve their meals really had us mindfully savouring each bite! We were also delighted to hear that the chef prioritises cruelty-free and environmentally-conscious practices, though I was a bit confused to find out that they source meat from as far as New Zealand, given the carbon-emission impact of such a long-haul import. Hopefully they will be able to source their meat more locally soon!

Very nice hotel with delicious food and charming hospitality! If you want a quite place to rest I highly recommend this place!!!

The Kniebishöhe Hotel Restaurant, in the little village of Kniebis, 11km up the road from Freudenstadt, is a typical Black Forest hotel, picture postcard perfect from the outside with a charming German interior – as a foreign visitor, it’s wonderfully authentic, not old fashioned, but not just another bland hotel. It’s a genuine German / Austrian / Swiss tourist destination, in the winter months, a skiing destination, in the summer months, a hiking destination. Make no mistake, you will have to book in advance! It’s quite possible to use public transport to reach the hotel, using a combination of trains, trams and finally a short bus trip, indeed, when you’re a guest in the region, you’re given a Tourist card which along with various discounts, entitles you to free public transport in the region. We made excellent use of this card, it’s genuine value for money, however if you wish to visit various other attractions and towns in the region, it’s best to have a car, perhaps hire one in Freudenstadt. The hotel has three floors of accommodation, some rooms have balconies and some rooms have a second bedroom. They also have family accommodation units. The rooms are not large, but beautifully presented with plenty of power points and excellent hot, high pressure showers. We’ve now stayed in both a Balcony single bedroom and a two bedroom unit. We found the two bedroom unit more practical in terms of luggage space and my wife said it was very handy if I snored! The rooms are serviced daily. Our only compliant would be the absence of Wi-Fi in the bedrooms. There is Wi-Fi (free) downstairs in the lobby, the fireside seating area and the dining room. The hotel is dog friendly – yes, you can bring your dog to stay, although whether we’ll ever bring our dog Zoey from Perth, is problematic! The food is fantastic, one of the reasons we’d vowed to return. The hotel does a traditional German breakfast every morning and diner every night, however they don’t offer lunches, as guests are out exploring, hiking, or skiing and there are cafes around the area, although be warned, the little village of Kniebis has nothing open, other than the roadhouse, if you needed to stock up on things, pop down to Freudenstadt. Silke Marti and her husband Daniel Schnell own and run the hotel. Silke runs the office and Daniel the kitchen, they are the loveliest hosts and can’t do enough for you, we were treated like old friends when we arrived. This was a special New Year’s Eve package, offering (on New Year’s Eve), champers and appetisers on arrival, then a six course meal, followed by fireworks at midnight. We started around 6.30pm, with host David running through the proceedings for the night, as we enjoyed the champagne. Wine is available by the glass, which is important when you have several differing courses, however we were fortunate to meet another couple , James and Ingrid and shared bottles. Around 11.45pm, we rugged up to go outside for the hotel fireworks display. I should add there was no snow this New Year’s Eve, but it was still cold and crisp. After seeing the New Year in, guests were invited into the kitchen, to meet the staff, relax and enjoy freshly cooked German Sausages and mustard. Wunderbar. Breakfast was set for later in the morning, for obvious reasons and treated as Brunch, starting at 10.00am. Like us, most guests left the following morning. Kniebishöhe has various dinner events throughout each year from Whisky Nights and Cheese Fondue nights, through to New Year’s Eve extravaganzas, the rates are excellent, the food is superb and the owners are lovely people to be with. If you want to visit the Black Forest, whether to ski in the winter, or hike, (summer or winter), I can’t recommend this hotel enough. This was our second visit and we’ll be back. Greg Ross

The hotel is really great. The mix of modern and rustic is a perfect match. The room was very comfortable. The food was amazingly good, they put a lot of emphasis on quality and regional products and they really made it very appealing. The hosts are super warm and open. I can only recommend the hotel 😊

We spent relaxing days in the hotel Kniebishöhe and have been warmly welcomed and spoiled by the hosts and their team, and you are all very attentive ... the perfect hosts. The breakfast (whether served as a buffet or at the table) was delicious and we really enjoyed it. The tip with the cereal I have already implemented. Also the Emmerbrot we liked so much, that we took two breads on departure. The evening meal including appetizer and dessert was always delicious, a dream. Also, the greeting from the kitchen was always a force and perfectly staged. The wine recommendation fit like a poke on the eye. At all you could tell the food the high quality and that they were freshly prepared and the presentation was always a feast for the eyes. A beautiful retreat was the great garden. Unfortunately, the days were over too fast, but we will definitely come back and look forward to it. Thanks again for the wonderful time.

On our motorcycle tour through the Black Forest we stayed here - kitchen and service first class! The boss has immediately provided the garage for our motorcycles - absolute recommendation! 👍

This hotel was recommended to us because of a dog meeting. It is a small hotel, right on the edge of the forest. We only stayed one night, but it has to be mentioned that we received a very friendly welcome. Everything is right here! The rooms were very clean and the given ambience of the facility in the hotel area was very satisfactory. The food on offer from the kitchen is lovingly prepared and very tasty. Breakfast served very lovingly personally. That made our stay complete. I would like to thank the two hosts again Thank you Silke Marti & Daniel Schnell for the special kindness.
